Improving Urban Flood Mapping by Merging Synthetic Aperture Radar-Derived Flood Footprints with Flood Hazard Maps

چکیده

Remotely sensed flood extents obtained in near real-time can be used for emergency incident management and as observations assimilation into forecasting models. High-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors have the potential to detect urban areas through clouds during both day- night-time. This paper considers a method detecting flooding by merging SAR with model-derived hazard maps. allows two-way symbiosis, whereby currently available extent improves future model predictions, while maps after overpasses improve estimate of extents. The estimates using backscatter only rural adjacent ones. It was compared an existing returns areas. solely gave average detection accuracy 94% false positive rate 9% more accurate than method.

Uncertainty in Calibrating Flood Propagation Models with Flood Boundaries Derived from Synthetic Aperture Radar Imagery

An instantaneous synthetic aperture radar (SAR) derived flood extent map helps retrieving the distributed conveyance parameters in one-dimensional flood routing models. These models are generally calibrated based on the sole use of ground data. This research aims to use earth observation (EO) data in order to establish a significant parameter retrieval strategy, providing an alternative model c...

Asar Derived Flood Maps for Flood Propagation Model Calibration

During flood events Earth Observation (EO) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is able to provide valuable information on the spatial extent of inundations. With its multi-polarisation capacity, the ENVISAT ASAR instrument is now able to propose reliable data for maximum flood extent retrieval. These extents can be useful in calibrating and/or evaluating flood propagation models and their uncertaint...

Flood Hazard Mapping using Aster Image data with GIS

Flood is one of the most devastating natural hazards which lead to the loss of lives, properties and resources. It has therefore become important to create easily read, rapidly accessible flood hazard map, which will prioritize the mitigation effects. This study addresses the need for an efficient and cost-effective methodology for preparing flood hazard maps in Ghana, particularly those region...
